This article is about ten of the best facial tinted moisturizers. But, maybe some of you don’t know what a tinted moisturizer is or more importantly why you would use one instead of foundation. It is exactly what it sounds like; a facial moisturizer with a tint to it. It is more lightweight than foundation. There is also a more glossy look with a tinted moisturizer than there is a foundation. If you like that look, you don’t need to apply anything else…if you like a more matte look; use a powder with it as you would with a foundation.
A couple of final things to be aware of with tinted moisturizers…they are only mild coverage. This means that they are only good for evening out the skin tone. If you are blemished or have severe rashes or any other skin issue, a tinted moisturizer will not cover that. If you have oily skin be aware that these do have a tendency to make your skin even oilier before using them. Finally, there are not as many shades available in tinted moisturizers as there are with foundations. It means that it will be a decent match but not exact or close to it as a foundation would be. Basically, if you are an individual that needs to wear foundation but wants to use a tinted moisturizer. Go halfway and use it on days that you do not need the full coverage; particularly in the summer.
Without further adieu, here are the top 10 best facial tinted moisturizers.
01. Aveeno Positively Radiant Skin Daily Moisturizer SPF 15, 4 Ounce
As of the time of writing this, this is the best selling facial tinted moisturizer on Amazon. It is one of the best, if not the best, for oily skin due to it being so lightweight. The counter though is that as a moisturizer the non-tinted version is superior; the tinted version even in the light form is harder to blend than some foundations out there. There are also complaints of it drying out the skin; which is not uncommon with moisturizers that have SPF built in. Yes sometimes that is because people use sunscreen in addition to moisturizer or foundation with sunscreen also in it, but with some products it can happen anyway. Basically, it got included in the list for your information because it is that good of a moisturizer so you can decide whether you want to risk the tinted kind or not.
02. Image Skincare Prevention plus Daily Tinted Oil-Free Moisturizer SPF 30, 3.2 Ounce
The first thing you will notice about this one is that it only comes in one color. I hope you will not let that convince you to not try it at least once though; especially if you do not have oily skin. This is one of the best on the market but it does have a slightly greasy texture so be careful if you do have oily skin. Everyone else, this is a great one to at least try once. This moisturizer is very soothing to the skin even for those that have extremely sensitive skin.
03. Lancome Bienfait Teinte Beauty Cream
Here we have one of the more expensive ones on the market. It is not entirely unwarranted though. For one thing it is SPF 30 where a lot of the cheaper products (decent or not) are SPF 15. For another it lasts for 24 hours…there is not one of the cheaper ones that I know of that can claim that. Finally it comes in seven shades instead of the two or three maximum that most other facial tinted moisturizers do. So, if you would like to try one but are reluctant because of a shading issue, this would be an excellent choice.
04. Paula’s Choice Resist Super-Light Daily Wrinkle Defense SPF 30 Tinted Matte Moisturizer
I have some concerns about this one…but as a moisturizer it is still decent and it is on the list for the purposes of being thorough. One it is fairly expensive compared to the others that only come in one tint. Second off, it is not even marketed as a tinted moisturizer because of how sheer it is. This would be better to use if your foundation did not come with sunscreen built in and this was a replacement for your primer. It is an excellent sunscreen and moisturizer…but so are other things that are not quite as expensive as this (not to mention found locally if you are one of those people who doesn’t always want to shop online).
05. Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel
This is the second one on the list so far that is by an otherwise well known foundation brand. If you have not yet tried a facial tinted moisturizer the fact that foundation companies are now making them should be as convincing a reason as any to try them. This one even comes in ten shades, not the seven that the Lancome did. At the time of writing this, it is even slightly less expensive than Lancome. We girls have our make up brands that we swear by (and yes it is a girl thing and our right to do so…). That noted, I doubt one would be disappointed with either one of these.
06. Physicians Formula Organic Wear
The coverage on this one is weak compared to the one listed in this article from Lancome or Bare Minerals. But that is fine, one can whine about expensive makeup all they please…but sometimes you get what you pay for and this is no exception. If you are okay with a light amount of coverage and are not sure you want to drop the more dollars on either of the others; go ahead and try this one. If you are someone who needs more coverage, look elsewhere on this list; the coverage is really light even for a tinted moisturizer.
07. Jergens Glow Revitalizing Body Lotion, Fair to Medium
This one isn’t so much a tinted moisturizer as it is a low end sunless tanning lotion. Keep in mind it says it will only work on fair to medium skin tones. So obviously some people will fall out of the scope. The other give away that this is an all over lotion and not just for the face is that it is a much richer formula than that of which is just for the face. But it is extremely cheap (at least at the time of writing this) and based on that alone, if it interests you, it is worth trying once.
08. Jane Iredale Dream Tint Moisturizer
This one is about as expensive as the Bare Minerals or Lancome. Now I am not saying you don’t get what you pay for…but those two previous brands I recognized before trying them; this one I did not. So that begs the question of why is it more expensive and is it worth it? Well, first off–the reason it was unknown to me is that it is mostly carried in spas for use after plastic surgery.
Next, the shades run light…there is a distinct possibility you are going to look like a ghost if you try this one. My recommendation would be against this one, unless you have a lot of money to burn. But if you feel you must try it, ask around at the spas or even Sephora and see if you can get a sample. In my opinion, this one does not justify the expense it is.
09. Glo Therapeutics Moisturizing Tint SPF 30
This one is priced more than the drug store pricing but not quite as high as some of the others (which two of them I would still recommend, one I would not…). This one comes in four shades which is a balance between the one or two maximum that a lot of tinted moisturizers come as and still claim to work for everyone. It might be worth trying if you don’t have access to your normal favored product…but I don’t recommend it; especially not buying it on Amazon. There are a lot of complaints about people getting the wrong shade when ordering it. That’s not necessarily to diss Amazon either. I really like the grocery store, but I wouldn’t expect to buy an awesome running car from there. Well you get my point…no matter how great a store is, nothing is perfect. Also, there are complaints about the bottle breaking after a few uses even though they liked the product itself. It is unclear if the bottle is different on Amazon than it would be if purchased in a store, but that is still something to keep in mind.
10. Eminence Vanilla Latte Tinted Moisturizer
I don’t know about you…but I for one am always reluctant to spend a lot of money on an unknown (at least to me) beauty brand. This goes double when I go on Amazon and see bad reviews. With ingredients such as jojoba oil and shea butter; you would think at first glance that this is a decent product. However, it has something called octinoxate which is harmful. I have concerns with products that advertise themselves as being proud of being organic while having harmful ingredients in the product. Further, there are several complaints about the skin being dry after using this. It was not the most expensive item on the list…but it was enough that it is not worth it, in my opinion.
In conclusion, which facial tinted moisturizer is the best does depend on how much you are willing to spend. As I said, the Jergens Glow Revitalizing Lotion…is not even technically a tinted moisturizer but it is a self tanning lotion that is cheap. Cheap enough that I would give it a try…especially if you are not so picky that you have to have separate things for your body and face regardless of what it is. If you are looking for a cheap facial tinted moisturizer, Physicians Formula is the way to go. It is going to be weak coverage, but once again you do get what you pay for.
Next recommendation is the Image Skincare Prevention. If you can spend a little more (but not as much as the others I am recommending) and are open minded to that it only comes in one color; this one deserves to be tried. Finally, if you are one of those divas (like me) that swears by only using known makeup brands whenever remotely possible for everything…go with the Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue or the Lancome Bienfait Beauty Cream. The Lancome is my personal pick because it lasts for 24 hours. However, I realize and appreciate that not everyone will spend that on a beauty product but will still want something decent. So, that noted the Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue is next recommended for being almost as good and a bit cheaper.
